OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP
The Mazama Newt Project is being developed in partnership with the Oregon Zoo Foundation.
This collaboration connects original artwork, select print releases, and conservation-minded fundraising in a shared effort to spotlight wildlife and habitat through art.
Sly Foxx Atelier is proud to partner with the Oregon Zoo Foundation on the Mazama Newt Project, a conservation-inspired fine art initiative rooted in the fragile ecosystems surrounding Crater Lake.
Through original artwork and carefully released print editions, the project aims to celebrate a rare amphibian species while contributing to conservation-focused fundraising efforts
A conservation-focused artwork initiative inspired by one of the Pacific Northwest’s most fragile amphibians.
The Mazama Newt Project is an original body of work created to support awareness and conservation of a rare, high-elevation species native to the Pacific Northwest.
Through this project, Sly Foxx Atelier aims to translate ecological importance into visual form—highlighting both the beauty of the Mazama newt and the vulnerability of the habitats it depends on.
This initiative is designed not only as an artistic exploration, but as a platform to support conservation messaging, public engagement, and potential fundraising opportunities aligned with the Oregon Zoo Foundation’s mission.
Crater Lake National Park protects the caldera formed by the collapse of Mount Mazama. The region is home to deep water, alpine forest, volcanic terrain, and fragile wetland ecosystems that support species found nowhere else.
The Mazama Newt Project draws inspiration from this landscape and the life it sustains.
The Mazama newt is a subspecies of rough-skinned newt found in the wetlands and forests surrounding Crater Lake.
Named for Mount Mazama — the volcano whose collapse formed Crater Lake nearly 8,000 years ago — the species is closely tied to the fragile ecosystems of the Cascade Range.
Amphibians like the Mazama newt are important indicators of environmental health, making their protection essential to the long-term stability of these high-elevation habitats.
